IPL FAQs
Intense Pulsed Light, also known as IPL which is a modern type of laser hair removal used for long-term, pain-free hair removal. When our Handset is used on your hair, it absorbs the IPL which then heats and destroys the targeted hair cells.
As with all light-based treatments, IPL works by emitting a light energy into the skin. This energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, which then turns to heat and destroys the hair roots.
Both laser hair removal and IPL use light, and in turn heat, to destroy the hair cells. The difference is mainly in the light spectrum used. Lasers use one wavelength of light which creates a single beam, whereas IPL uses a wide range of wavelengths of light to produce a single white flash.
Absolutely! There have been many clinical studies conducted that demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of IPL for hair removal. Due to this fact, it has become an extremely popular option for safe and effective method of hair removal at home and in clinics.
Also our handset ensures that all UV wavelengths are filtered by blocking wavelengths below 470 nm from the IPL spectrum. This is standard among most IPL systems. This is done to prevent the light doing damage to the outer layer of the skin, this means your handset will never cause longterm complications caused by UV exposure such as skin cancer, skin aging and etc.
In short, IPL hair removal is a very safe treatment and if used as instructed, our handset poses no risks to the user! It is FCC, CE and RoHs certified for safe use. However please consult with your doctor before you use IPL if you have any of the following:
- A skin disorder such as allergic dermatitis, eczema, etc.
- Epilepsy
- Photosensitization
- Fuscescens nevus
- Pregnant or lactating
- Broken skin, a scab or healed wound, cancer or hemangioma
- Any artificial aesthetic, prosthetic or plastic area
1. Place the Flash Window firmly against the skin - ensure the Skin Contact Sensors are fully engaged.
2. Press the flash button to deliver a flash. You should expect to see a bright flash of light (similar to a camera flash), and you should feel a mild sensation of warmth.
3. Move to the next area and treat in a grid like pattern to ensure full coverage of the treatment area.
• For Single-Flash Mode (Manual Mode), press the Flash Button each time you move to the next area.
• For Auto-Flash Mode, keep your finger on the Flash Button then release, the handset will flash on its own (when ready), without you pressing any buttons at all.
You can use your handset on your entire body, including your bikini area and face. It is not recommended to use the handset directly on the eyes, lips, nipples or genitals (male or female). When we use the term 'genitals' we are referring to the complete genital area. We do not recommend treating directly on the genitals as this area has more sensitive skin and more pigmentation which puts you at a greater risk of an adverse reaction, such as blistering. The bikini area is a common treatment area for our handset users; however, you must be careful when getting too close to the genital area. We do not recommend treating the genital area but consider completing a full bikini - which will be very close, but not a full Brazilian.
Feelings may vary from person to person. One of the many advantages of IPL over other types of laser is that it is pain free for most people. Most customers explain the feeling as a warm sensation on the skin. If you are experiencing pain while using our hand set please check the following list of possibilities to make sure you are using the device correctly:
o Recent exposure to the sun. We recommend staying out of strong sun exposure for 2 weeks before using our Handset.
o Not shaving first. The IPL Handset may burn long hairs and it won't be effective to target the hair root if the hair is too long.
o Intensity level that is too high for your skin. We recommend starting with level 1 intensity and gradually increase the level until you feel discomfort.
o Darker than the recommended skin tones. Please check the skin tone chart on our website or in your user guide.
o Not lifting the Handset after each flash. Doing this could harm the device and yourself. We recommend slightly lifting the Handset after each flash to allow for cool air to cool down the quartz bulb.
o Using the device on the same spot multiple times per session. We recommend only 1 - 3 passes over each spot then moving to a new spot, otherwise you could be harming your skin and the device.
o Applying a cooling gel, lotion or any other type of applicant before treatment. We don't recommend using any lotion or ointment before treatment.
Please refer to the following chart for guidance on frequency of use:
Please make sure you follow these instructions to care for your handset:
1)Cleaning the handset is advised after each use. You can use an alcohol wipe to clean down the handset and the light window after treatment. Ensure your handset is powered off and is not plugged in before doing so. You should then store the handset in a cool, dry place after use. Don’t use it before the handset is completely dry.
2)Do not apply any care products before use. Skin should be totally clean and dry as these products can act as a barrier that prevent the light from reaching hair follicles and can cause irreversible damages to the handset.
3)Do not use your handset near water and always keep your handset and the power adapter dry.
4)Make sure that your hair is not longer than 1mm, We always recommend shaving one day before using because the IPL Handset may burn long hairs and it won't be effective to target the hair root if the hair is too long.
5)Do not shake the handset violently or use it in direct sunlight.
6)We recommend slightly lifting the Handset after each flash to allow for cool air to cool down the quartz bulb. Not lifting the Handset after each flash could harm the device and yourself.
7)The two circular vents at the back should NOT be covered while using as this can cause your handset to overheat and get damaged.
8)The handset takes a few seconds to turn off, you should make sure the handset is completely turned off before you unplug it.
Although our handsets are fitted with a sensor and will not pulse and light unless the entire window is pressed against your skin, It is recommended to wear eye protection while using it. That being said you should never try and look directly into the light as it flashes.
We advise that users of our handsets are 16 and older.
Our IPL Handset offers very long-lasting results. You actually have to be careful when some clinics claim ‘permanent’ hair removal as all forms of IPL/Laser hair removal require some maintenance, or eventually the hair will start growing back. To maintain long-term results, we advise using our Handset once every few months for maintenance after the hair stops growing.
Most customers begin to see a reduction of hair in just 2-3 treatments, with complete results after 10 treatments. However, results can vary from person to person.
Yes, you may smell a slight burning while the light energy is heating the hair, it just means there may be some hairs that have not been shaved. Please ensure that your skin is shaved before using your handset.
Yes, before your treatments you should only shave when required. You should never use other forms of hair removal including waxing, plucking, or epilating, as these methods remove the hair root entirely which is what absorbs our handset's light during the treatment.
IPL is suitable for all but the darkest skin tones. Please refer to the skin tone chart below to see whether or not our handset is suitable for you.
IPL targets the melanin in the hair which absorbs the light energy, and therefore IPL may not be so effective on very light blonde, red, or grey coloured hair. For light
blonde hair the treatment may take longer to take effect but will work with time and consistency, darker shades will work perfectly.
Although no evidence that IPL has negative effects on pregnant or breastfeeding women exists, we still don’t recommend using our handset just as a precaution.
You should not use the handset over very dark freckles or moles, although light freckles are okay.
You should not use IPL over tattoos. The light energy will be more attracted to the pigments in the skin, rather than the melanin in the hair which can cause a reaction in the skin and blistering. Going around your tattoos is fine
After using your handset, you should wait at least 48 hours to tan. After tanning we recommend waiting 2 weeks before using IPL over your skin. The same applies for sun beds. We advise removing all artificial tan before using our handsets, as the light
energy may be more attracted to the pigments in the skin, rather than the melanin in the hair.
Yes, our handsets have been designed to be gentle on sensitive skin types.
Side effects are rare when using the handset as recommended, redness and swelling is the most common side effect from IPL, which will quickly subside after treatment.
Our handsets have 2 modes you can use it on. Manual mode, where the handset will flash as you press the trigger button. Auto mode, where the handset will flash on its own (when ready), without you pressing any buttons at all.
No. There is no need for replacements or refills.
Our handsets have a use-life of 999,000 flashes, which will last well over 30 years if used as directed.
